Our dedicated volunteers are the lifeblood of the Center. They make everything we do possible: we could not function without the time, energy, and commitment they generously provide. Volunteers are of all ages, from teenagers (13+) eager to perform community service, to parents with school-aged children, and retirees who now have time and want to give back to their community.
Most of our volunteers work to support the daily operations of the Center: receiving and sorting donations, directly assisting our families in need in our food pantry and clothing boutique, working in our Community Studio or Community Shop, making home deliveries, or picking up food donations or food recovery. Some volunteers dedicate themselves to a regular shift each week, while others volunteer as needed. In these key areas, volunteers work in teams of 2 or 3, and work a three-hour shift. Many of our volunteers look forward to the time they spend with their team each week.
There are 2 weekday shifts: 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm and 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Thursday, and one on Saturday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. The Center is closed on Sunday and Monday, when local public schools have snow days, and on all major holidays.
Community Service Volunteers are asked to volunteer a minimum of three shifts of three hours each. Students usually volunteer on Saturdays or during vacation breaks.
Volunteers can also participate in the Center’s work by teaching classes and workshops, such as English or computer skills, maintaining the building and grounds, packing school supplies or assisting in fundraising efforts. We have many ways you can volunteer; we’ll try to find a way that suits your talents and inclinations.
